Return to Work After Retirement
When you retire from the Electrical Industry, you may work in other industries and continue to receive your Pension; however, your monthly benefits from the Plan will be suspended if you return to work in the Electrical Industry, except for certain very limited exceptions. If you are considering returning to work, review carefully the information on this page and in the SPD in order to make sure you comply with the notification requirements and understand the financial ramifications of your actions.
Plan Checklist
- If you work after retirement, your retirement benefits from the Pension Fund will be suspended if you return to work in disqualifying employment before your Normal Retirement Age (age 65).
- After your Normal Retirement Age, your Pension Fund Benefits will be suspended if you return to work in disqualifying employment for 40 or more hours in a month.
- Once retirement benefits commence, you should notify the Pension Fund in writing within 30 days after starting any work of a type that is or may be disqualifying under the provisions of the Pension Plan and without regard to the number of hours of such work (that is, whether or not you have worked less than 40 hours in a month).
- If you are retired and your benefits have been suspended, be sure to notify the Pension Plan when you terminate disqualifying employment in order to resume your benefit payments as soon as possible.
Contact the Fund office if you have any questions.
